Abstract: Bank mergers have come out as a
fundamental approach towards improving the banking industry stability,
competitiveness, and efficiency. Mergers between Public Sector Banks (PSBs) in
India have caused important structural, behavioral, and cultural change, which
affects the perception of employees, their experiences at work, and their
flexibility to organizational change. This paper examines employees’
perceptions of mergers, behavioural changes, cultural compatibility, and future
expectations.
The research design consists of primary
data gathered through 349 employees of the selected merged PSBs by the use of a
five-point Likert scale questionnaire. It uses behavioral and cultural
compatibility model to implement the Lewin change theory. Descriptive
statistics, exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and Pearson correlation analysis
are applied as analytical tools.
The result shows that there are important cultural factors (conflict, shift, integration) and behavioral factors (job security, adaptation, engagement). Also, the concerns about career development, competitiveness, and quality of the services provided by employees can be called as the future perspective, which emphasizes the necessity of the effective changes management system.
